Bruecken from Oldenburg hits their debutalbum Schall Und Raum of with a short intro, before taking the shortcut and cut right to the bone (hence the colour of the vinyl?). At first glance they sound pretty straightforward you would think this is just another instrumental post-hardcore album with post-rock elements. But, listening closer to the songs, it will reveal some extra layers and influences. The albumtitle means ‘Sound and Room’, and that is just what this record needs. It needs space to breath, it needs volume, lots of volume.
This record was created in a time of difficult conditions, but also in deep connection. It is an attempt to express feelings through music to a surprising and overwhelming sense powerlessness, when someone is suddenly missing and you suddenly have to accept people's decisions to take different paths. While on the other hand you can sense a deep joy and gratitude that new connections are being created and old values are proving their worth.
Schall und Raum has strengthened the powerful bond as a group, which makes this album a solid fundament for hope to spawn and bloom, if given that extra time to express itself. This is an album about struggling with being unable to finish unfinished matters. Instead of becoming frustrated about having to let go, it’s about the focus on possibilities that remain when other options are no longer an option. It teaches us to trust in taking that necessary step back, before we can leap forward.
Bruecken (meaning Bridges) wants to connect people through their music. To stand up against the hatred and injustice that racism, anti-Semitism, sexism, fanaticism and capitalism spread in the everyday lives of our fellow human beings. To stand up against the monstrosity of politics, having all the means to save our planet, in their hands and yet failing miserably all the way.
Bruecken connects, be a part of Bruecken!
