When Waves Collide – Chasm

Perhaps one of the most remarkable albums of 2021 came from the Parisian quartet When Waves Collide. This cinematic post-rock band released their first full-length called Chasm and contains 6 great songs. Chasm is a concept album about a civilization on the brink of extinction. Musically we follow this civilization through their fall, how they struggle, pray, survive disasters and finally end up at their inevitable stranding. When Waves Collide uses their instrumental cinematic approach in combination with shoegazing post-rock arrangements that are reminiscent of big bands like Long Distance Calling, Moments Of Collapse, PG.Lost and We Lost The Sea. Like these bands, these French have the ability to create stories with their instruments. Without using words, the surprising arrangements guide you through the story.
When Waves Collide already released the EP I and their single Star Collapse in 2019, which gave us an idea of ​​what to expect from these French instrumentalists. With Chasm they have gone even further and you can hear that the band itself has evolved. The music has become more diverse by introducing elements of progressive rock, post-metal, shoegaze and post-rock, while maintaining the ambient soundscapes. The end result is a very well thought out album, with a truly unique sound that propelled the band up the ranks with the release of Chasm. The album is sold out almost everywhere, but we managed to get a few copies of their first pressing (limited to just 300 copies worldwide on gold 180gr. vinyl with black splatter).
