The inner sleeves of LPs have to endure quite a bit during transport, but also during use the records sometimes press the inner sleeves to pieces. The padded inner sleeves reduce the risk of scratches when sliding back into the sleeve and also protect against dust and mold.
The polyethylene window prevents dust and dirt from reaching the record.
